Distribution:
 Known from only one specimen (FMNH 117910) which was collected on the Kansas/Missouri border in 1949. Additional specimens are needed to verify that a population of this salamander exists in Kansas.

Remarks:
 The Western Slimy Salamander is known from Ottawa County, Oklahoma. In addition, Johnson (1977, 1987) recorded this species from Newton County in southwestern Missouri. These two counties adjoin the southeastern comer of Kansas from the south and east, respectively. Thus, this amphibian may be discovered beneath leaves and logs on moist, wooded slopes and ravines along small streams in the Ozark Plateau of Cherokee County, Kansas.
